Hi, I'm Falaq- a Biotechnology graduate with a passion for science and education. I currently work as a Teaching Assistant at the British Council, and I've conducted real laboratory research in microbiology and environmental science, with two accepted publications at international conferences.
I didn't take the typical route into teaching. I came through science first. That means when I teach Biology or Chemistry, I'm not just explaining what's in the textbook. I've actually grown my own bacteria, run PCR experiments, and worked with poisonous chemicals. Which means I can answer all the questions your books don't have!
Outside the science side, I'm also experienced in English language support through my work at the British Council, so I'm comfortable helping students who need a bit of an extra push in both science and English.
I'm based in Sri Lanka and teach online, which means I'm flexible with scheduling and different time zones. Whether it's exam prep, catching up, or you just want to understand the fascinating world of science from someone who has real-life experience, I'd love to help!

My approach to teaching is built around making science feel relevant to their everyday life, and accessible rather than abstract and simply words to memorize. I believe students learn best when they understand the why behind what they're studying, not just the what, so I focus on connecting concepts to real-world examples that actually make sense to a young person.
My lessons start by identifying what the student already knows and the gaps. From there I build explanations around those gaps, using analogies, pictures, and practical examples before moving into the textbook material. I check understanding throughout rather than just at the end or beginning, and I adjust my pace accordingly.
Having worked as a Teaching Assistant at the British Council and conducted real laboratory research myself, I bring two things most tutors don't- genuine scientific experience and professional training in student engagement. I know what it actually looks like to run a PCR experiment or analyse data, which means I can answer the deeper questions students usually have and give them anecdotes and explanations from
my personal life
My target range for students is anywhere from primary throughout highschool.
